The World Brain and Mediaplex Volume: A Revolutionary Breakthrough

The Origins of the World Brain:

Imagine a world where all human knowledge and information is accessible at your fingertips. A place where all books, articles, and data are interconnected, forming a vast network of information. This dream became a reality with the invention of the World Brain.

In the early 20th century, visionary scientist Dr. Hugo Wells conceived the idea of creating a universal library that could store and disseminate all knowledge. Inspired by the potential of technology, he envisioned a system that would enable people from different parts of the world to access and contribute to this vast pool of information.

The Mediaplex Volume:

Dr. Wells realized that to achieve his vision, he needed to develop a physical infrastructure capable of housing the vast amount of information that would make up the World Brain. And so, the Mediaplex Volume was born.

The Mediaplex Volume is a colossal storage facility, stretching over multiple stories and housing an astonishing number of hard drives. Each drive is capable of holding terabytes of data, allowing for the storing of billions of books, articles, papers, and any other form of written knowledge.

The Mediaplex Volume is not only designed for storage purposes but also serves as the backbone of the World Brain. It connects to millions of computers worldwide via a sophisticated network, enabling seamless access to information for users across the globe.

Building the World Brain:

The construction of the World Brain was a monumental task. The process involved a team of brilliant engineers, computer scientists, and architects who worked tirelessly to bring Dr. Wells' vision to life.

Firstly, a location was chosen to house the Mediaplex Volume. The team opted for a remote and secure underground facility, ensuring the preservation of precious information. The underground location also provided an efficient cooling mechanism to prevent the hard drives from overheating.

Next, the team began assembling the hard drives inside the Mediaplex Volume. Each drive was meticulously connected to a central processing unit, which coordinated the retrieval and transfer of data to and from the connected computers worldwide.

To ensure uninterrupted access to information, redundant backup systems were employed. In the event of a hardware failure, the information stored on the failed drive would seamlessly switch to a backup, guaranteeing uninterrupted access.

The Functionality of the World Brain:

The World Brain operates on a highly sophisticated algorithm that categorizes and indexes information based on relevance and popularity. This allows users to easily find the information they seek, ensuring efficiency and convenience.

Additionally, the World Brain has an ingenious machine learning system that continuously learns from user behavior, adapting and improving its search capabilities over time. This ensures that the more the World Brain is used, the better it becomes at delivering relevant and accurate information.

Furthermore, the World Brain is not limited to textual information. It can store and retrieve various other media formats such as images, videos, and audio files. This makes it a comprehensive resource for all forms of human knowledge and creative expression.

The Impact of the World Brain and Mediaplex Volume:

The invention of the World Brain and the Mediaplex Volume has had a profound impact on society. It has revolutionized the way we access and interact with information, breaking down barriers and democratizing knowledge.

Academic researchers now have unparalleled access to vast amounts of information, accelerating the pace of discovery and innovation. Students of all ages can delve into the depths of human knowledge, gaining a broader understanding of the world.

Furthermore, the World Brain has facilitated the sharing of diverse perspectives and cultures, bringing people closer together. It has become a platform for creative expression, enabling artists to showcase their work to a global audience.

In , the World Brain and the Mediaplex Volume represent a monumental achievement in human history. They have transformed the way we learn, share and create knowledge, shaping a more informed and interconnected world.

This book is about the global computing and knowledge network - that HG Wells called the World-Brain - and about the global media-arts environment we live in - the vast Web-Net, the streaming-media services, the online archives - that I’m calling the MediaPlex. None of this existed 50 years ago, though artists, engineers, designers, architects, critics and other ‘imagineers’ and ‘design-scientists’ were thinking about it and visualising how it might be. This is a history of how we got to be here, with 24/7 access to any media, any information we want, anywhere we want it. Its about how we built the World-Brain and how we invented the MediaPlex to go with it.
