Joan's Call to Greatness

At the age of just 17, Joan reached out to the future King of France, Charles VII, believing she had been chosen by God to help him reclaim his throne. Despite initial skepticism, Charles granted Joan an audience and was convinced by her presence and conviction.

With the King's support, Joan was equipped with armor and a banner bearing the fleur-de-lis, a symbol of French royalty. She was appointed as the commander of an army and set out on a mission to lift the siege of Orléans, a crucial turning point in the war.

The Siege of Orléans and the Battle for France

Under Joan's leadership, the French army achieved a series of incredible victories, ultimately leading to the lifting of the siege of Orléans. Her military successes boosted the morale of the French forces and sparked a renewed sense of hope among the people.

Joan's remarkable journey continued as she accompanied the Dauphin (heir to the French throne) to his coronation at Reims, solidifying his legitimacy as King Charles VII. Her achievements on the battlefield had a profound impact on the political and religious landscape of the time, and her influence was undeniable.

Accusations, Trials, and Martyrdom

Unfortunately, Joan's rise to prominence also attracted enemies and detractors. After a series of minor military setbacks, she was captured by the Burgundians, allies of the English. Subsequently, she was handed over to the English, who were eager to discredit her and undermine the legitimacy of the French monarchy.

Joan faced a series of trials, during which she was accused of heresy and witchcraft. Despite her strong defense and unwavering assertion of divine guidance, she was ultimately condemned and sentenced to death. On May 30, 1431, at the age of just 19, Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in Rouen, France.

Legacy and Canonization

Joan's story did not end with her tragic death. Decades after her execution, doubts regarding her conviction and the legitimacy of her trial grew. In 1456, Joan was posthumously declared innocent and a martyr by the ecclesiastical court. She was later beatified in 1909 and finally canonized as a saint in 1920.

Today, Joan of Arc is regarded as one of the most inspiring and emblematic figures in French history. Her extraordinary journey and unwavering faith continue to captivate and inspire people of all ages, especially children, who learn about her bravery, conviction, and the importance of fighting for what one believes in.
