Part I is a narrative memoir of the author's mother, Huda Awad, whose life was a microcosm of the ups and downs of the political drama playing out in Palestine. Part II is a historical account of the Arab-Israeli conflict from the perspective of the author, a Palestinian Christian clergyman.
